Getting
5.1 on the Audigy -Andy Faull First
let me say that the Klipsch 5.1 system is also a analog speaker system,
not digital. The digital connector on the Audigy is also used for the
Center/Sub when configured for analog use.
To
get to the CMSS take a look at the following pics;
![]() ![]() Also
you are not alone [if you have] with crackling problems with the Audigy
Plat. If you go to the Creative newserver, and read through the posts;
you will see that crackling is common on VIA motherboards with the squeal
of death mainly on Intel Motherboards (including Dells)
I also own an Audigy Plat and the soundfonts don't even work right. Also they are having incredible problems with their drivers both in 98 & in XP. If
you are going to replace the soundcard, you may also want to look at the
Hercules GTXP, it has an external box that has some of the features of
the Audigy Drive. If your main focus is on recording, you may wish to
look at the Terratec DMX 6Fire. Tom's
hardware did a comparison between the Audigy Plat and the Terratec
here;
It
is a little more expensive that the Audigy but definitely worth a look.
I know that Audiomidi.com
has them for $250.
It
unlike any "Consumer Grade" card has real 24 Bit recording and
96 KHz sample rates without resampling.
Having
the problems you seem to be talking about definitely plug the Klipsch
Front connector into a portable CD Player or MP3 Player. If you still
have dull sound and crackling without the soundcard in the mix, then look
at the speakers. But look at the item that has the most configuration
parameters first.
Lastly
for any problems you have with the guitar, you may have better luck asking
about this in a recording newsgroup like re.audio.pro or even recording
software newsgroups like cooledit's, n-Track's, or soundforge's. There you
tend to talk mostly to other musicians who rely on these options for their
livelihood.
