Cable Ends
Subwoofer
End
The
next steps are the same for all cables.
With
a razor blade split one end of the cable, approx. 2 1/2 inches.(BE
CAREFUL)
![]() Strip
about 1/2" to 3/4" of the plastic covering off, twist the wires,
and clean them with alcohol.
![]() Time
to solder!
This
is where the "third hand" comes in. Use your "third hand"
to hold the wire, so you can hold the soldering iron and solder, so you
can properly perform the procedure. Tin the ends with solder.
Make
sure you get the solder flowing easily and fast. You'll know when it happens.
Place the tip of the soldering iron under the end of the wire(heat rises),
after a few seconds, touch the solder on the top side of the wire close
to where the plastic covering was cut.
![]() When
everything is hot enough the solder will start flowing like water, and
towards the heat source. Make sure you have a pretty long piece of solder,
about a foot, it makes it easier to handle and you'll have plenty to flow.
When
it starts flowing, don't stop to fast, the cable is pretty thick and the
solder needs a little time to flow through all of the strands.
When
your done, let cool for a little bit and wipe it down with rubbing alcohol,
this will clean the residue off the solder. You should have something
like this.
![]() Why
"tin" the ends?
For
one, it keeps the wire strands from separating.
Two,
by tinning the ends, your basically taking all those separate strands
of wire and creating one solid wire. This can help in reducing resistance.
